How to find a good mechanic or auto electrician (rewire) in Nigeria
Updated 21 Oct 2026
A good mechanic saves you money for years, and a bad one can cost you a car. Whether you need a general mechanic, an auto electrician (often called a rewire), an A/C technician or a panel beater, the same habits help.
Ask around first
Recommendations from people who drive the same make of car are the best start. Many mechanics specialise in particular makes, so ask for someone who knows yours.
Get a diagnosis before any work
Ask the mechanic to explain what is wrong and why before they start. For warning lights and electrical faults, a computer diagnosis helps avoid guesswork. If the repair is expensive, a second opinion is worth it.
Agree on the job and the price
- Agree on what will be done, which parts are needed and the total cost, including labour.
- Ask whether the parts will be new, tokunbo or aftermarket.
- Ask the mechanic to call you before doing any extra work.
Keep your old parts
Ask for the replaced parts back. It shows the work was done and lets you check that new parts were fitted.
Test before you pay in full
Drive the car, or test the repaired system, before settling the balance.
