10 questions to ask a car parts dealer before you travel
Updated 21 Oct 2026
Traffic, fuel and time make a wasted trip to a parts market expensive. A short call or WhatsApp message first saves most of that. Here is what to ask.
- Do you have the exact part for my car? Give the make, model, year, engine and part number.
- Is it new, tokunbo (used) or aftermarket? These differ a lot in price and lifespan.
- Which brand or origin is it? Ask for a photo of the part and its markings.
- What is the price, and is it negotiable? Confirm whether fitting is included.
- Can I see it working before I pay? Especially for electrical parts and engines.
- What if it doesn't fit? Ask about exchanges and refunds before you buy.
- Is there any warranty? Note how long, and get it in writing.
- Can you deliver, or recommend someone to fit it?
- What are your opening hours? Many shops and markets close on Sundays and public holidays.
- How do I find your shop? Ask for a landmark, line or shop number, and a pin location.
